On this day and age, it’s common to listen to our favorite music tracks on-demand anytime and anywhere thanks to the internet with the many streaming options available to us. But for those who remember or are familiar with listening to music on the radio whether it’s via the airwaves or the internet, there’s a feeling of happiness when favorite tracks get played after waiting. Radio broadcasts are still relevant today as it can reach places where internet coverage might not be easily available.
Enter Mister K, a Radio DJ broadcasting from DXNT 96.5 FM located in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental. In this special interview with PAKSAMNL, he discussed how he became a DJ, how he uses his platform to spread the word about MNL48 and shares messages for MNLoves, the MNL48 members, and the Philippines.
NC: How did you discover and fell in love with MNL48?
MK: Na-discover ko ang MNL48 way back 2018 sa It’s Showtime through a friend na may knowledge about AKB48.

The song is very catchy. And because I'm a music-minded person, I appreciate the new kind of sound they want to introduce to the public — the sound innovative OPM with a touch of J-culture.)
NC: How did you become a Radio DJ at your current station?
MK: Mass Comm. graduate kasi ako at isa sa mga field of interest ko sa mass media is radio broadcasting. So ayun, nag-audition ako as Disc Jockey sa DXNT 96.5 FM at natanggap naman. Since then, biningayan ako ng radio alias na “Mister K” ng aming Station Manager.

NC: Since when have you been working on DXNT 96.5?
MK: Almost two years na rin po. July 2018.
(Almost two years now, since July 2018.)
NC: What have you done so far to promote MNL48?
(Playing their music on the stadium programs and introducing them to the adlibs I’m playing on air.)
NC: Do your superiors know about your MNL promotions, and if yes, what are their reactions?
(Yes my program director and station manager know that I have promotions about MNL48. So far, they love the context of the song lyrics because of their wholesomeness and the lessons to pick up from them)
NC: How do radio stations here in the Philippines for example, obtain music for playing on the airwaves? And how did you obtain MNL48 tracks for broadcast?
MK: It’s either the artist themselves submit a demo copy of their song to the station or the station itself will purchase such through digital music stores. Yung sa akin naman dahil hindi pa kilala ng stasyon at at first ang MNL48, bumili ako ng CDs (way back before nagka download cards) at dinala ko sa stasyon for a legitimate copy. Since MNL48 songs are getting popular nowadays, mas madali na siyang isingit through a certain program’s music log—bale list of songs siya na played through a program—at maipitch mo agad sa DJ or spinner na onboard.
(It's either the artist themselves submitting a demo copy of their song to the station or the station itself will purchase such through digital music stores. As for me because the station is not yet known and at MNL48 is a first for us, so I bought CDs (way back before downloading cards were released) and I brought them to the station for use as legitimate copies. Since MNL48 songs are getting popular nowadays, it's easier to insert them through a certain program's music log — a list of songs he played through a program — and you can instantly pitch them to a DJ or spinner onboard.)
NC: Have you seen /met the MNL 48 members in person? If yes, how was the experience?
MK: Oo, first event ko nung December Seitansai 2019.
(Yes, it's my first event in December Seitansai 2019. It's so exciting and very fulfilling to finally see your oshis and other MNLoves who you just met through social media for me who’s part Team Faraway.(Northern Mindanao)
NC: Have any MNL48 members noticed you outside of events?
(Hmmm maybe? About the time I went to the December 2019 STS, Aly recognized me immediately though I’m not always on Team Events. Maybe it's just because of social media.)
NC: Any favorite/memorable fan interactions you've experienced in radio or events?
MK: Well, talking about my memorable fan interactions sa radio siguro every time may mga na-rereceive ako na messages na nirerequest nila ang MNL48 songs.
(Well, talking about my memorable fan interactions on the radio, maybe every time I receive messages requesting for MNL48 songs. It’s very fulfilling because for me I am part of spreading their music. I remember I had Senior High interns who willingly listened to my short pep talk on MNL48.)
Nakakatuwa! Hehe
(At events, when I went to MSC I was recognized by several MNLoves even though I didn’t know them. That's funny! *laughs*)

MK: MNL48 has influenced me in a way that their perseverance in their idol career also inspired me to do so with my own.

(For MNLoves, may we not tire of supporting MNL48, and especially don’t forget to vote or request their songs on radio and television stations.
