As 2020 nears its end, MNL48 has released “#HASHLOVE," a Christmas-inspired track and marked as the Philippine idol group’s first original song since its establishment in 2018.
The music video, initially premiered last December 23, shows select members switching from “gospel” scenarios, to casual fun-filled sequences such as gift exchange and baking.
The track is performed by Shekinah Arzaga, Frances Pinlac, Cole Somera, Jamie Alberto, Yzabel Divinagracia, Ruth Lingat and Brei Binuya and it was composed by Jungee Marcelo, who penned some of the country’s well-beloved tracks such as Daniel Padilla’s “Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat” and Gary Valenciano’s “Hataw Na."
The sudden release of the track, without any hints from either HalloHallo Entertainment, the idol group's handlers, or from the members itself, caught most of the fans off-guard and was surprised by the year-end drop of the track as evident by their insights on Twitter.
Twitter user Von Adler stated that the overall aura of "#HASHLOVE" is reminiscent of “an orchestra of endearment and exuding the warmth of peace that all mankind can share."
On the other hand, Twitter user Cali admired the sudden transition MNL48 has shown within a span of a month. She noted that the group transitioned from the angst shown by “RIVER” to a more soothing aura showed by “#HASHLOVE," to which she described as "a testament of diversity."
UK-based MNL48 fan CeCe said that she was lucky to have seen five music video releases from the group in the span of 2020 despite of the circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She hopes that there is more to look out for MNL48 in 2021 after the said track's release.
"#HASHLOVE" was widely received by the fans of MNL48, and the hashtag #HashloveMNL48 peaked at number four in the “Trending” list on Twitter Philippines.
As of this writing, the music video has received 49,788 views since its release. HHE has also announced that the track is also available across major music streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music. An auto-generated track was also made available on YouTube Music.
