Filipina idol group MNL48 has launched its first-ever sub-unit in partnership with a major Japanese music retailer. In a news release posted through the idol group’s website and mobile app, Hallohallo Entertainment (HHE) announced the formation of Baby Blue which composed of Jan Elaurza, Coleen Trinidad and Amy Isidto. The said sub-unit was formed in partnership with Tower Records Japan.
The idol group’s management also announced the launching the sub-unit’s debut single entitles “Sweet Talking Sugar” which was released today in Japan through the music retailer’s digital music subscription service, “EGGS,” as well as in other music platforms.
According to HHE, the sub-unit will “highlight the R&B and hip-hop genre,” while the debut single is a “fresh take” to the Japanese city pop genre. Furthermore, they also said that Baby Blue will be the first Filipino music group to be promoted in Japan and in Asia through Tower Records Japan.
Elaurza, who is the sub-unit’s leader according to its profile in the EGGS website, said that the preparation for their debut single during the Covid-19 pandemic was a challenge for the group but it didn’t dampen their spirits and doubled their efforts while helping each other in accomplishing the project. ”We faced many struggles because of the pandemic but we didn’t let the negative things bring us down. Instead, we doubled our efforts and helped each other. I think our passion and love for our dream made us accomplished this project. We will give our best for Baby Blue to move forward towards our dream,” she said.
As for Trinidad, she was grateful to be a part of Baby Blue as she was excited for their debut single. She said that it was different from the songs that they usually did for MNL48 but she will enjoy trying something different. “Baby Blue's music is a bit different from what we usually do but I really enjoy trying different genres and being versatile with music,” she said.
Isidto thanked the idol group’s management in giving the three of them the opportunity while hoping that their fans will give their support to Baby Blue. “We are also hoping that everyone will appreciate our songs. We promise to give our best and will make the best out of it,” she said.
“Sweet Talking Sugar” is still available for free streaming on the EGGS website. As of 3:00 AM Manila time, the song was streamed 8,454 times.
