Who is the ‘most problematic?'

A Google Docs poll was posted in Twitter a few days ago determining who is the most ‘problematic’ person in the MNL48 fandom. In a developing fanbase for a developing idol group, the term “problematic” is not just applied to the fans themselves, but also the management as well.

For starters, the fans became ‘problematic’ as soon as they got a hold on their social media accounts and start serving their “teas” as if they are beneficial for the collective. Information, regarding a violation, which should have been used for private matters, are converted for public consumption, initiating a witch hunt of some sorts, but instead of pitchforks and torches, they got their keyboards and a false sense of justice.

They hide behind a mask of being the judge, jury, and prosecutor for a member or members who violated the rules while enclosed in a bubble of illusion that they ‘protect’ the idol group.

This kind of mentality hinders the group’s growth, where their muscle, including the financial one, relies on their fanbase. Instead of being the light MNL48 needs at the end of the tunnel, they became the flame that came from a dumpster fire.

On the other side, the management became ‘problematic’ for their decisions. From the elimination stipulation in their General Elections to several management misfires and misses that fans known both physically and in social media, the higher ups creating their own problems that could also hinder the group’s growth.

They should know this problems first hand as they have the ability to do so. They are making the fans’ dream a reality since they initiated MNL48.

Now, to reiterate the said Google Docs poll, who is the ‘most problematic?’ The fans? The management? Both of them. They created their own problems while they didn’t see the solution, and the ability of making it. Both need to focus on the betterment of the group and not dwindling in their own darkness. Otherwise, MNL48 will be buried under false promises and empty support.

Over the past few days, fans of AKB48 Group on Twitter are on a frenzy after engaging in a fanmade Senbatsu Sousenkyo. The said poll sparked discussions and arguments between them, an atmosphere that was almost the same every year when the real Senbatsu poll happens. In the author’s opinion, the poll itself is a great initiative for the fans to focus on the ‘what if’s,’ the main reason why the Sousenkyo commenced.

The great thing about this is that it scratches up that Sousenkyo itch that started in 2019 where the Vernalossom, formerly AKS, decided not to hold another one. Another reason why this is a great idea is because it kills that pandemic blues.

The author is also hoping the same feeling for the MNL48 fanbase, esp. The 3rd General Elections is coming. But I guess removing the elimination stipulation should be the start of rekindling that feeling.

The voting period for MNL48’s 3rd General Elections was extended until October, which means longer time for:

- fans to prepare their machinery and their promotions,

- members to prepare for their appeal videos,

- management to fix logistics regarding the voting tickets and other technicalities, like the preliminary vote counts, as well promotions for singles before the event’s final day.

They got 3 months to prepare. Spend it well.

Stay safe and have fun.
